Our Last Day on Chiloe

For our last day on Chiloe Jutta requested a good hike, because after all we had been slacking for a couple of days, and we needed to maintain our razor sharp conditioning for Patagonia. We arrived downstairs and were greeted by Maggie, and Pauli, aka, Dora the Explorer, and headed off to the north west tip of the island for a forest/beach excursion.  The weather was fantastic as usual.......not a bad day on the trip so far, and after two hours we were at our starting point.  We planned to hike through the forest along the shore, end up on a beach, hike the beach to a boat on a river, go up the river and view the devastation from a tsunami, get in the van, and return home..........along the way, we would be fed mass quantities of food, and alcohol would be forced upon us no matter how hard we tried to resist.

View of the coastal forest.......up....down......up......down.....up.....down.......miles of it before reaching the beach........tough slogging a lot of the way on tight, steep, muddy trails, but that's what makes it fun........
Dora (L) and Maggie

When we emerged from the forest onto the viewpoints along the coast it was just stunning

Eventually Maggie and Dora let us descend all the way to the beach where a fantastic lunch was presented (D&M had been carrying it all morning in their packs), and we all enjoyed a super lunch on the beach........incredible setting with huge waves crashing in......the pictures just don't do it justice.

Lunch spot

Following lunch, we hiked this absolutely beautiful/deserted beach down to a point where a river was flowing into the sea..........the only things we saw on the beach were cows and horses......hey, in Chile even the cows get a day at the beach.

Our lunch spot was way the hell down there at that distant point

Our boat awaits
El Capitan

Fun boat ride upriver where we were to meet the van for transport back to the hotel.......and yes, more food before getting in the van.

So we say goodbye to everyone on Chiloe........thanks for a wonderful stay on your island.
